Flores Finishes Off Rox Sweep of Sussex

AUGUSTA, NJ - Brockton Rox starter RHP Freddy Flores was fantastic in a complete-game effort, and the Rox offense tallied 19 hits as Brockton completed a five-game sweep, 13-2, over the Sussex Skyhawks on Thursday night at Skylands Park.

Flores earned his fourth win of the year while allowing just two earned runs on six hits over the full nine innings.  He surrendered both runs and three of the six hits in the ninth inning.  Flores added four strikeouts against just one walk on the night.

After giving up a two-out double to 1B John Urick in the second inning, Flores began a streak of retiring 17 consecutive batters, and he chalked up five straight 1-2-3 frames.

Brockton's offense had little trouble against Sussex starter LHP Roger Lincoln.  2B Derek Kinzler got the Rox on the board in the second with an RBI single.  In the third inning, DH Palmer Karr hit his 17th home run of the season; a two-run shot, that ties him with Jud Thigpen for the Rox single-season record.

The top of the sixth inning saw Brockton send 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on eight hits.  1B Clyde Williams stroked a three-run double, while 3B Phillip Cuadrado, who had a 3-for-5 evening, connected on two doubles in the inning, each plating a run.  RF Keith Brachold also added two singles and two runs scored in the inning.

SS Dominic Ramos had a 4-for-6 night with four singles and two runs scored.  Five other Rox starters had at least two hits and four hitters had multiple RBI nights; Williams (3), Karr (3), Cuadrado (2) and Kinzler (2).

With the five-game sweep of the Skyhawks, the Rox win the season series 8-6, and are now 19-13 away from Campanelli Stadium for the season.  They will play three games this weekend at New Hampshire before returning to Brockton to battle Quebec on Tuesday night.

Game one tomorrow night is set for a 6:35 PM first pitch with LHP Fraser Robinson (6-3, 4.15 ERA) slated to take the hill at Historic Holman Stadium in Nashua.
