Back In Win Column; Rox Tie For First

BROCKTON, MA - RHP Freddy Flores was brilliant for a second consecutive outing, and the Rox offense jumped out to five runs in the first three innings to earn a share of first place with a 6-1 victory over Quebec.  The win sets up a Thursday night rubber match to determine a clear first-place team.

Brockton led the entire night after taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on CF Chris Valencia’s RBI triple, which plated SS Dominic Ramos.  In the second inning, the Rox extended that lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs capped by Ramos’ RBI double.

Quebec scored its lone run of the night in the top of the third inning when 2B Josh Colafemina drove in RF Sebastien Boucher on a fielder’s choice.  After a subsequent walk, Flores retired 10 of 11, cruising through the middle innings.

Brockton extended a 3-1 lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the third when 2B Melvin Falu hit his sixth home run of the year, a line drive over the left field wall, which also plated 1B Clyde Williams.

Flores departed with one out in the seventh inning after a double by LF Tony Lewis put two Capitales’ runners in scoring position with one out.  LHP Brad Hertzler entered and did not allow either runner to score, striking out Boucher, and inducing an inning-ending ground out.

The Rox received a scoreless inning in relief from both RHP Keith Noe, and closer RHP Jerry Dunn who worked his second consecutive outing in a non-save situation.

The Rox and Capitales will play a rubber match on Thursday night at Campanelli Stadium.  The winner will own sole possession of first place in the second half standings.  LHP Fraser Robinson (7-3, 4.02 ERA) will start for the Rox opposite Quebec’s RHP Dan Sausville (6-3, 4.30 ERA).  Thursday night’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.  Tickets are available online at www.brocktonrox.com.
